From MARK McGregor

I recently had the good fortune to deliver my first program in Pakistan and if my experience of Terrabiz and Karachi is anything to go by then the economy of Pakistan is great hands. The seminar covered two of the essential elements of a successful Business Process Management (BPM) program – Mapping & Modeling and The People Side of Change.

The venue and organization was superb, with Terrabiz working hard to create the ideal learning space for delegates. The delegates themselves, around 40 people were great, open minded, keen to learn and happy to participate. Their receptiveness to new ideas and willingness to change is to be commended.

From my perception the benefits and challenges for BPM in Pakistan are different from those of other countries in the region. With a smaller working population then the smart working and automation side of BPM is quite important here as they will enable businesses to scale rapidly. As with other cultures there is a risk that people will use BPM to force policies and procedures on people and thus risk losing some of the key areas of creativity and innovation. But, this does not make Pakistan different as it is a risk that threatens many businesses around the globe.

From what I saw and heard I think one of the challenges for business and IT people in Pakistan is to make full use of the services of organizations like Terrabiz, who can and will bring world class knowledge to the region, so long as companies support their efforts.

Within the region there can be a tendency for people not to spend enough time in education and learning and making sure that they take the ideas and then meld or adapt them in such a way as to ensure that they best serve the needs of their own country.

If through my own efforts I have helped this along in some small way then I feel truly blessed.
